Wednesday’s learning 29/4/20

P.E. – Daily workout with Joe Wicks! https://www.youtube.com/thebodycoachtv

Maths – Click on the following link and have a go at Lesson 3 – Problem solving: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-3/ Also, remember to have a go at practising your times tables! https://www.lawfordmead.essex.sch.uk/blogs/year3/2020/03/16/times-tables-practice/

English – Creative Writing:

Look at the picture above carefully and then have a go at the following activities:

Question time!

  • What do you think it would feel like to ride an ostrich?
  • How do you think the ostrich feels about being ridden?
  • What top-tips would you give Emma to help her win the race?
  • How do you think riding an ostrich would be different from riding a horse?
  • What thoughts do you think are going through Emma’s mind?

Sick sentences!

These sentences are ‘sick’ and need help to get better. Can you help by improving them? How about adding in some adjectives or adverbs? Or improving the verbs that have been used?

Adjectives are describing words. They describe a noun.

Adverbs tells you ‘how’ and ‘when’ something happens.

Verbs are actions/doing words.

The ostrich pointed its neck forward and ruffled its feathers.

Together they went across the ground.

RE: Worship in different religions – Christianity

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zyn34wx

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/religious-studies-ks2-what-is-christianity/znshvk7

Gather information by watching the above video clips and then answer these questions on a notepad.

  • Which is the world’s biggest religion? How many people worldwide follow this religion?
  • Which place is considered as ‘a holy land’ by Christians?
  • What do you mean by crucifixion?
  • How many days after his death did Jesus come back to life?

Tuesday’s learning 28/4/20

P.E. – Daily workout with Joe Wicks! https://www.youtube.com/thebodycoachtv

Maths – Click on the following link and have a go at Lesson 2 – Subtract fractions: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-3/ Also, remember to have a go at practising your times tables! https://www.lawfordmead.essex.sch.uk/blogs/year3/2020/03/16/times-tables-practice/

English – Reading

Have a go at the reading comprehension. Read the text first (if you don’t understand any of the words, look them up in a dictionary), then answer the questions underneath on a notepad.

‘Good gracious me!’ Aunt Spiker said, ‘What’s that awful noise?’

Both women swing round to look. The noise, of course, had been caused by the peach crashing through the fence that surrounded it, and now, gathering speed every second, it came rolling across the garden towards the place where Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker were standing.

The gaped. They screamed. They started to run. They panicked. They both got in each other’s way. They began pushing and jostling and each one of them was thinking only about saving herself. Aunt Sponge, the fat one, tripped over a box that she’d brought along to keep the money in and fell flat on her face.

Write the answers in full sentences:

  1. What did the peach crash through?
  2. What was the peach rolling towards?
  3. Write 3 things that the Aunts did when they saw the peach rolling.
  4. Which Aunt tripped over a box?
  5. What had the Aunt brought the box along for?
  6. What did Aunt Sponge fall on?

Find your reading book, picture book or magazine and spend some time enjoying reading, either to yourself or to a parent. If you finish your book, why not write a book review: https://www.lawfordmead.essex.sch.uk/blogs/year3/2020/03/16/book-reviews/

Geography – How are rivers formed:

https://www.dkfindout.com/uk/earth/rivers/how-do-rivers-form/

Go on the link above and find as much information as you can on how the rivers are formed.

Now go on another website (bitesize) and see a short video clip on rivers. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z849q6f/articles/z7w8pg8

Using the information gathered from the above links, can you make a poster or write a paragraph explaining how the rivers are formed.

There is a ‘test your knowledge of rivers’ at the bottom of the page on bitesize link. Have a go at it!

Remember to post your work on seesaw!
