Ideas for writing!

resource image

This week, why not have a go at the following activities based on this image?

Question time!

Discuss these questions with your family or write the answers down on a piece of paper.

Which animal would be suited to working in the health clinic?

Can you give suggestions as to the occupations of the other animals in the picture?

If you could have any job, what would it be and why?

If you could be any animal, what would it be and why?

What problems might they encounter in Animal Town that humans don’t encounter in human towns?

Are there any similar problems that both animals and humans experience?

Would animals be better off without humans? Would humans be better off without animals?

Sick sentences!

These sentences are ‘sick’ and need help to get better. Can you help by improving them? How about adding in some adjectives or adverbs? Or improving the verbs that have been used?

A lion sat on the van. A giraffe put his head out through the window. The zebra walked across the road.

Sentence challenge!

Can you use prepositions to describe where each of the animals in the picture are?

E.g. The zebra wanders across the road.

The orangutan lounges on the bench.

You could experiment by adding in adjectives to describe the animals too!

Here are some prepositions you could use!

Story starter!

Get a piece of paper or a computer and continue the story!

Most visitors are a little shocked (to put it mildly) when they arrive at Animal Town. Despite the fact that the name of the town gives a slight indication to passers-by that the inhabitants of the town are ‘not normal’, it’s as if people don’t believe things until the see them with their own eyes!

Once you get used to being in Animal Town – or so they say – seeing an orangutan behind a desk in a sheriff’s office and upholding the law to an impeccably high standard becomes relatively ‘normal’…

Imagine you are a visitor in Animal Town. Try to describe your experience.

Alternatively, you could be one of the residents…

We look forward to seeing your fantastic writing!

Spellings!

This week, why not have a go at revising the prefix un-?

  1. What is a prefix? Tell your parents, brother, sister or grandparents over video chat? If you can’t remember, this video clip should remind you: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z8mxrwx/articles/z9hjwxs

2. Can you add the correct word beginning with un- to the following sentences?

Words to choose from: unhappy, unfold, unfit, unkind, unhealthy

Please _________ the paper.

My dinner was very ________ last night.

I found it hard to exercise for 30 minutes as I am ________.

It is _________ to say nasty things to someone.

I am _________ that I had to go to bed early last night.

The above is a link to White Rose’s home learning page: they include a video linked to the skill that is being taught, a task and a set of answers too!

The upcoming lessons are exactly what we would have been learning if we were in school!

Whilst you can complete the lessons whenever you would like, how about joining the Maths Party everyday at 10am?

AND REMEMBER… KEEP PRACTISING YOUR TIMES TABLES! Here are some good websites to help you: https://www.lawfordmead.essex.sch.uk/blogs/year3/2020/03/16/times-tables-practice/

Our skeleton and muscles!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z9339j6

The above link has 2 videos all about how the human body and skeleton works! Can you watch all the videos and have a go at the following activities?

  • Have a go at this quiz:  https://www.dkfindout.com/uk/quiz/human-body/take-skeleton-and-bone-quiz/
  • Play ‘Simon Says’ with your family. One person says a bone in the human body and the rest of the family have to point to that bone!
  • Write a story imagining what it would be like if you had no skeleton or muscles!
  • Create a poster or presentation, either on paper or using a computer, all about the human skeleton and our muscles
  • Fill in the missing words in this paragraph:
  • Draw a labelled diagram of the human skeleton. Could you make it life-sized?

We would love to see all your work! Mrs Phelps and Mrs Dubey

New week, new Picture News!

This week’s story: How people are keeping their spirits up in changing times!

Question: Can you think of ways to remain positive during difficult times?

Watch the following video for a virtual assembly all about this week’s news story! You may need to pause the video to give yourself some more time to think about the questions!

Here are some additional ideas for you to have a go at!

Home Learning for German

This website is great and has lots to do, from finding out about Germany, to learning lots of new language. https://ukgermanconnection.org/kids/

Explore the sections on Find Out, Make and Do, Games and Quizzes, Stories and Songs, Fun with German.

Practise the topics you have learnt this year on german-games.net – most of you have used this website in class. You click on Topics and choose a topic, do the tutorial and then play the games. If you are wanting a challenge, choose a topic you haven’t learnt yet and learn some new words.

You could try and cook a German recipe https://www.tasty-german-recipe.com/kid-recipes.html with the help of an adult of course. There are lots of recipes on this site. Take a photo of what you make to show us.

You could find out about one of these topics and do a project on it: German cars, German sports stars, German football teams, a town or region in Germany……

Viel Spaß! (Have fun!)

Bis bald,

Frau Lees
