Home learning 4/1/21

Hello Year 3!

We have sent home a pack of work for you to complete on Monday 4th January, when we will be having a home learning day after the Christmas holidays.

In the morning, we would like you to complete:

  • A spelling task – look, cover, write, check of our spelling words for that week
  • A piece of creative writing – look at the picture and write sentences to describe what you can see, hear, think or feel.
  • A reading comprehension task – read the text and answer the questions
  • Some times tables questions
  • Some column addition and subtraction questions

In the afternoon, we would like you to complete:

  • A History task – designing your own stone age outfit
  • A German task set by Mrs Lees about numbers

If you were not in school on Friday, a copy of the home learning pack can be downloaded here.

Remember to upload your learning to Seesaw – you don’t need to bring your learning packs back into school.

Also on that day, we will have a Year 3 Zoom meeting at 10:20 am to talk about your learning and what you have achieved so far.

Homework 14/12/20 – 18/12/20

English: This week are are looking at adding -ment and -ness to the end of words. The last three words are from the Year 3 and 4 spelling list.

Some children have been given different spellings than these, they need to check them in their seesaw account. We have posted their spellings there for them and have told them!

Please remember to read every night and fill in your reading record. Don’t forget to put it on seesaw!

Today’s learning 7/12/20

German:

This week we are learning about the Christmas tradition of Sankt Nikolaus in Germany.

  1. Watch this song video about Sankt Nikolaus – sing along if you can! https://youtu.be/k2nr6KGoHO4  
  2. Use the internet to find out some facts about Sankt Nikolaus and how children in Germany celebrate on 5/6th December. (Who was Sankt Nikolaus? What do children put outside their door on the evening of 5th December in Germany? What do they find in the morning? What is Sankt Nikolaus’s helper called?)

Reading:

Today we had a go at a grammar, punctuation and spelling assessment. You could revise these concepts by trying these questions from a Year 2 paper:

Today’s learning 4/12/20

Maths: In maths we learnt how to make equal groups using grouping. Have a go at the following link to understand this way of dividing and try some questions given in the video.

Computing: In computing, we researched and planned for our presentation slides on Greek gods and goddesses. We had a go at using chrome books.

Today’s learning 3/12/20

We had an exciting Winter Art Day at school today. Year 3 learnt about the African American artist Alma Thomas.

In the afternoon, we used different coloured tissue paper to recreate her style of work.

Today’s learning 2/12/20

English: We finished the last part of our myth today, where the problem gets solved and everything returns back to normal.

Maths: We learnt about making equal groups/dividing by sharing.

Reading: Read the text answer the questions at the end.

Science: In science we were investigating which materials were magnetic or non- magnetic. If you have a magnet at home, why not investigate which objects are magnetic and which are non-magnetic! Why don’t you test out the fun fact given below.
