English – Have a look at these diary entries from Samuel Pepys. Can you find any verbs (doing words) in the past tense? Can you spot how a diary should start?

Then, have a go at planning and writing your own diary entry. You could write one about The Great Fire of London, pretending to be Samuel Pepys or Thomas Farriner or you could keep your own diary about what you have been doing each day. Don’t forget to start with the date and ‘Dear Diary’ and to use some past tense verbs to talk about things that have already happened.

Maths – Practise addition and subtraction of 2-digit numbers.

Addition – Here’s a video to watch and some questions to have a go at below:

Subtraction – Here’s a video to watch and questions below:

Science – We have been learning about materials. Have a look around your house and find objects that are made from each material: metal, wood, glass, plastic, fabric, paper, brick and cardboard.

Consider these questions:

What properties does each material have? E.g. It could be transparent, opaque, hard, soft, smooth, rough, stretchy, stiff.

Why are objects made from different materials?

Can you find 4 things made from different metals that have different properties?

What properties would a pair of wellies need? What material would be good to make wellies from? Why?

Would it be better to make a table out of wood or fabric? Why?

Phonics

In phonics, we were looking at real and alien words linked to our phase 4 learning this week. Can you decide which of these words are real and which are fake and write 4 sentences using the real words?

Maths

We have started looking at subtraction this week. Today, we’d like you to subtract a 1 digit number from a 2 digit number by drawing your 10s and 1s to help you.

Here is a video to give you some other strategies that could help you:

English

In English, we have started looking at Samuel Pepys diary. We decided that diaries must include the following features:

  • Past tense words
  • Words that show that the person is talking about themselves (I, my, we, us…)
  • Dear Diary
  • Written in time order

Read Samuel Pepys diary and see if you can find these features.

History

Have you got any questions you’d like to ask Samuel Pepys? We’d live to hear them – we might even be able to find out the answer. Try and answer these questions about The Great Fire of London:
