Wow! What an amazing response we have had for places on clubs already. All the children were given a letter on Wednesday.  Miss Lindsay has sat still for a few hours today, believe it or not, sorting out places for all the free clubs we offer here at Lawford Mead. This term we are offering:

Monday – AFTER SCHOOL. Netball, KS1 multi-sports, ks2 multi-sports

Tuesday – MORNING – Boxing. AFTER SCHOOL. KS2 football

Wednesday – AFTER SCHOOL – Muddy Adventures

Thursday – MORNING – KS1 Gymnastics. AFTER SCHOOL – KS2 dodgeball

Friday – AFTER SCHOOL – KS1 dodgeball, Run Club.

We are so lucky to be able to offer these clubs run by Miss Lindsay and other school staff and are so pleased to see the overwhelming response to join in. Your child will find out their clubs on Friday after school.  Any parents that would like to join in with Run Club are more than welcome and we would love to have you joining in.  Please speak to Miss Lindsay or Miss Chittick to find out more.

KS2 Basketball

On Tuesday 20th June we took a group of year 4 & 5 children to St John Payne School to take part in our second ever basketball tournament against 9 other Chelmsford schools.

We played 4 games in our group stage winning 3 of them and narrowly losing one. We then progressed to the semi finals where we played Perryfields school with both teams showing great passion, determination and enthusiasm. After a tightly fought match Lawford Mead won the game by the 3 points putting us into the final!

In the final we face Cathedral school who had already beaten us in the group stage. We got the first basket putting us into the lead. However, Cathedral school fought back to equalise. That didn’t deter us and we came together as a team and showed our school value of resilience at its best, which resulted in us taking the lead. Cathedral rallied and equalised again. Lawford then fought bravely to take the next basket making the score 3-2. Cathedral then made it 3-3. With only minutes left on the clock Cathedral scored the winning basket making it 3-4 to Cathedral.

Miss Lindsay said the team couldn’t have given anymore and was so proud of them to receive their silver medals which they will show off proudly in assembly on Friday.

Well done again Lawford Mead. You are getting better and better and continually striving to improve your achievements in a range of sports.

Rounders!

On the 12th June our rounders team returned to Great Baddow High School for the next round of the tournament. Having won the first heat we were excited and quietly confident. We played 3 schools in our pool and won all three! We were then into the semi-finals. After a tense and well played game from both teams in both fielding and batting we were through to the finals!! We started batting and due to the excellent fielding skills struggled to get rounders. Then it was our turn to field despite excellent bowling and fielding they managed to pull ahead leaving us to come 2nd in a fantastic tournament. We can’t wait to go again next year!

Grangewaters residential 2017

In May we took nearly 70 students from Year 5&6 to Grangewaters for a week residential trip.

All members of staff were extremely proud of our students over the week. We had various activities organised throughout the week including:
Kayaking
Canoeing
Fun Boards
Rock Climbing
Zip Lining
Archery
Orienteering
Sailing
Rafting

All children toughly enjoyed the activities and developed their skills over the 4 days of activities. It was wonderful to see our students working so well together and also developing social skills. Every student should be extremely proud of themselves and their conduct over the week, representing our school in such a positive way.

We hope that some children have found a love for a new sporting activity and will go on to develop their new skills.

Year 5&6 Rounders tournament

During the first summer half term our students have been learning how to play rounders and develop their skills. We have only been working on Rounders for half of a term, however the progression, skill and ability shown in rounders has been outstanding.

On 23rd May 2017 we entered a team of 12 students to play in a tournament at St John Payne. 10 schools took part in the tournament and it was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon for everybody involved.

We would like to congratulate all of our students who attended on the day and other schools involved.
Finally we would like to say THANK YOU to the Lawford Mead squad for their hard work, determination and commitment in both PE lessons and during after school clubs.

Girls Football – 8th May

On Monday 8th May we took part in another girls football match, this time we played against Moulsham.

Again we entered a team of 9 students to play in the match. The students showed great determination throughout the whole match and worked fantastically as a team to show all of the school values.

The match ended with 0-1 to Lawford Mead. Moulsham School played a fantastic match and set us a very challenging game.

Well done to all of the girls involved in the match, once again our students made us very proud and we look forward to future games.

Girls Football Match – 18th April 2017

A massive congratulations to Adewewa, Megan, Jessica, Shannon, Zainab, Emily, Frankie, Henna and Katrina who made up the Lawford Mead squad. It was fantastic to see the St Michaels team brining great passion and enthusiasm to the game. All girls played a fantastic match and we walked away victorious with a win of 3-0 to Lawford Mead. Not forgetting Frankie who scored  an amazing hat trick!

We are forever growing proud of our students successes and achievements. It is wonderful to see the progression that each and every member of our team has made over the last few months.

Sitting Volleyball Festival – Change 4 Life

On Wednesday 8th March 2017 Miss Chittick and Mr Pleydell took 12 children from the ‘Change 4 Life’ group to CSAC to take part in a volleyball festival.

The children have been learning how to play sitting volleyball with Mr Pleydell in the weeks leading up to the mini games. The children have been learning how people with restricted movement take part in sports and to maximise to use of movement we have in order to get the most out of sport.

During the afternoon children were able to mix with pupils from other schools and were coached by GCSE students from Great Baddow High School. They then spent the afternoon rotating around and taking part in a number of skill stations in order to improve their volleyball skills and then ended the afternoon by taking part in some mini games.

We were very proud of all students and the enthusiasm they have shown towards learning a Paralympic sport.

Staff V Student Football Match

A few weeks ago Miss Lindsay had a fantastic idea of organising a Staff v Student football match.

The student team was made up of 14 players with Bobby as the team captain. Miss Lindsay was the captain for the staff team which was made up of 12 players.

In the weeks leading up to the football match there was great excitement and enthusiasm from both teams. The student team even went as far as organising their own training sessions after school with parents helping to coach them.

It was then on the 15th May that both teams came together after school for the match. On the day it was lovely to see so many people turning up to support us, both parents and staff, helping to generate an amazing buzz! Throughout the whole match all players on both teams showed great athleticism and sportsmanship. It was also evident that some of our staff members were quite competitive!

There were amazing goals scored during the match and the students definitely set the staff team a challenge!  The game ended with a score of 6-3 to the staff team.
Student goal scorers: Bobby (2) and Harvey (1)
Staff goal scorers: Mr Poyton and Mr Pearson

A massive congratulations to every single player for their enthusiasm, dedication and passion to the game. Miss Lindsay and her team are extremely proud of your achievements and attitude towards sport.

KS1 Dodgeball tournament

On 30th March 2017 we had 39 of our key stage 1 students take part in a dodgeball tournament here at Lawford Mead. We were able to enter 4 teams into this tournament and welcomed Kings Road Primary and Bishops Primary School.

All students played a brilliant match and showed all of the school values throughout. The determination and team work was clear throughout all games that were played. Both Miss Lindsay and Mr Pleydell are extremely proud of our students achievements and development in dodgeball, which made it very difficult to pick just a handful of players to take part.

A total of 15 matches were played during the tournament. Although Lawford Mead were victorious in the end, both Kings Road and Bishops showed great sportsmanship and it has been wonderful to watch the progression of all pupils throughout the tournament.

A massive well done to all of the students who took part and represented our school. And THANK YOU to Bishops and Kings Road for making it an exciting tournament. As always, the spectators filled the hall with fantastic energy and it was wonderful to see so many people supporting all 3 schools!
