Lawford Mead vs Tyrrells – Football League Match

MATCH REPORT BY TOM & GEORGE

Lawford Mead VS Tyrrells

Tuesday 18 October 2016

On Tuesday we played a football match against Tyrrells school (who were a tough team). However, we had a great side with players like George, Callum, Lauren,Tom, Bobby, Harvey, Matthew,Callum and George.

For the first ten minutes we had most of the possession and we were getting used to their style of play and because of our adaption to the game we managed to push the ball forward more to assist Harvey with a great team GOAL!!! 1-0 TO LAWFORD!

A while later, they started to break through our defence. However, our keeper(George) made some great saves. But sadly they broke through our defence and managed to slide the ball into the goal.

The game was flowing a bit more at 1-1 but we kept our heads high and played as a team. So we passed it round more and we got the ball forward and we had scored again to make it 2-1 to Lawford.

In the closing minutes of the first half the opposing team were gaining possession but our strong defence of Callum and Tom managed to win the ball for the team and passed the ball up the pitch. When we got into their half we started to give and go.

Within the last 2 minutes we managed to make it 3-1. Our special guest referee Mr Moss blew the whistle for the end of the first half. Once again the whistle blew but this time to start the second half. With fresh legs on the pitch George and Lauren came on for Matthew and Callum and then we started to try our new play styles out.

Then we found one that worked and we started playing through balls down the wing. George and Harvey started playing balls into the box and then the passing and hard work paid off by us scoring our 4th goal of the day.

Then suddenly Tyrrells raised their game and broke through to create a 1 on 1 chance against our keeper who came out just too early and hand balled it outside the box for an opposing free kick. But sadly they took a stunning free kick that not even 2 keepers couldn’t stop and they made it 4-2. After Tyrrells got their second goal they started to take more and more chances but using Miss Lindsay’s 5 second rule helped us create chances and release a monster of a shot by Bobby’s left foot and fly into the back of the net. For the last eight minutes of the game we managed to hold on to the ball and use some of our superb skills to keep the ball for the closing minutes of the game and the next thing we heard was the final whistle blow to give Lawford a 5-2 win for our first league game.

Lawford  Mead had to work extremely hard as a team to break down a very talented and resilient Tyrrells side.

The children all ran a super race, never giving up and encouraging each other across the line. The support from the parents helped the children get round the course.

Our reception children finished 6th overall. Year 1 finished 9th overall and Year 2 finished 17th overall. Well done to our KS1 children who achieved an amazing result. We are so proud of you for taking part and achieving great results!

Girls Football Tournament

On 11th October Miss Lindsay headed off to Great Baddow High School again; this time with the girls football team to participate in a football tournament. It was the first time our girls football team had played together in a match. The girls had had training with the boys and during lunchtimes and now it was time to put the skills and team work into practice. There were 11 schools entered into the competition. The girls showed great team work and passion throughout the tournament. The girls only conceded one goal in all their games during the group stage which resulted in them narrowly missing out on the final which was between Boreham and Moulsham, which Moulsham won. We came a very respectable 3rd place leaving  Miss Lindsay feeling very excited our in the upcoming girls league. Keep reading the blog to find out about our next match. img_0962

On Monday 10th October Miss Lindsay and the school football team headed over to Great Baddow High School to take part in a football tournament organised by the Chelmsford Sports Partnership. There were 21 schools taking part and the winners would get to represent Chelmsford in a level 3 competition in Southend in December.

We played 4 group stage games and won them all which got us through to the semi-final against Great Waltham which we won 1-0. We then faced Moulsham Junior School in the final. The team spirit, work rate and application of skills learnt during their PE lessons and clubs were evident. We beat Moulsham Juniors 3-0!

Race For Life 2016

Wow! What an amazing day. The rain clouds loomed and the heavens opened about an hour before we were due to run. We crossed our fingers and hoped it would pass. By the time the children arrived the track was dry and the sun was shining.

Our key stage 1 children and staff started off the afternoon by running 3 laps around the track at Chelmsford Sports and Athletics stadium.  Key stage 2 staff and pupils followed afterwards had to complete 6 laps around the track to earn their medals.  Our reception children also did their own race for life on the school field the previous day.

As difficult as it was Lawford Mead showed their resilience and carried on. Shouts of support were given as we passed each other (mainly children supporting the staff :)) All of our values were showed at different points throughout the day. It was really heartwarming to see staff and children all helping each other around the track whilst being cheered and supported on by family and friends and our wonderful parent volunteers. All the children, staff  and volunteers thoroughly deserved the medals they were given as they crossed the line. O

It was an emotional day watching the children and staff run with signs on their back supporting Cancer Research and to see how many of us at Lawford Mead have been affected by cancer. We have currently raised £1636 smashing our target of £550! Well done and a great big thank you to each and everyone of you who ran, jogged, walked, volunteered, supported and donated. You should all be proud of yourselves and proud of what Lawford Mead have achieved and show your medals off with pride.
