KS2 District Sports

This week Miss Lindsay and 24 KS2 children went to Chelmsford Sports and Athletics Centre to take part in the District Sports Track and Field Events. Starting with the Field events on Monday. Vitor competed in the final of the High Jump and narrowly missed out on 1st place, with a well earned second the two finalists were only centimetres away from breaking the record. Holly sprung her way onto the podium with an outstanding 1st place in the Girls High Jump. All the children that took part were great role models for the school.

On the Friday it was time for the Track Events, with the sun shining, Miss Lindsay and her 18 KS2 athletes set off in hope to bring back some more medals. Lauren started our winning streak with a win in the 600m. “She ran the perfect race” (quoted Miss Lindsay). Followed by Yasir finishing 1st in the year 6 80m sprint. Priscilla glided to victory in her year 5 80m sprint. Rihanna battled hard to finish 2nd in her 60m Year 3 race. Zaak also got in on the act with a 3rd place in his 80m sprint, and finally the Year 5/6 relay girls team of Lauren, Vanessa, Holly and Priscilla finished 2nd in their race. All the children represented the school excellently and tried their very best. They should all be so proud of their achievements.

Westlands Football

On Tuesday 24th of May, 3 football teams went up to Westlands school to play a series of matches, our first team played in a league match, whilst the other 2 teams played in a friendly tournament. The A team fought hard in their league game and did enough to win the game but with a goal in the final seconds from Westlands cut the 3 points to 1. The other 2 teams went on to win their games they played quite convincingly, with both teams scoring over 15 goals altogether in the 4 games played. All 3 teams played extremely well and were great role models for our school.

Y2 Mini Olympics

We had a lovely opening ceremony, which involved the children walking around Melbourne stadium, with flags they made themselves. There were 6 different events which included: balance bikes, running, hopping on the spot, speed stack cups and throwing. The children did exceptionally well and showed all the school values. At the end of the games, there was a closing ceremony and medals were awarded to the top three girls and top three boys. Maja won silver for the girls, Jessie won gold for the boys and Lawford Mead came 3rd overall. Big well done to all the children who took part.

Year 5 and 6 Football tournament

We welcomed 6 teams from 5 different schools to Lawford Mead to compete in our first football tournament that we have held on the premises. Here is a report of the tournament from one of our players. Thank you to all the teams, school staff and supporters who turned up and created a wonderful atmosphere.

Football Tournament

Recently, on the 24th of May, Lawford Mead hosted a year 5/6  football tournament.

We had 10 teams that competed. Thank you to all schools that came to the tournament. The teams there were: Lawford A, Lawford B, Lawford C, Lawford D, Moulsham A, Moulsham B, Cathedral, Newland Spring, Writtle and Bishops.

All schools got put into group stages, there were 2 group stages with 5 teams in both, we all played 4 games.

The winners of the 2 groups competed in a semi final. The two teams who made it through to the final were, Lawford Mead and Bishops.

This was a very exciting game indeed. During the seven minute game many chances were made by both teams, an outstanding performance all round, Bishops scored the only goal of the game, so well done Bishops School the champions of the tournament!
