Last week, Year 4 wrote soliloquies imagining they were either a Celtic warrior or a Roman soldier about to head into battle. Here is a great example of the writing produced. Well done Kieran!
What a busy first week Cedar and Chestnut have had! On Wednesday, we discussed why rules are important and talked about what helps us learn:
We also created a timeline of the Roman era, looking at the key events during their reign:
On Thursday, we started our art work, researching and designing Roman clay pots:
On Friday, we investigated how sounds are made by exploring musical instruments:
On Thursday, year 4 we were lucky enough to have a special visitor come into school! To engage the children in their new topic (I am Warrior!), they were able to learn about Roman soldiers, Roman gods and even become the Roman army! They learnt all about the famous tortoise formation, which led to the success of the Roman invasion. At the end of the day, we listened to a retelling of Boudicca’s story. It was a great day and the children really enjoyed learning about the Romans! See some pictures from our day below:
This half term, we will be learning all about the Romans in our topic ‘I am Warrior’. The books we will be reading this half term are The Thieves of Ostia and The Sewer Demon, both by Caroline Lawrence. They are both mystery stories set in Ostia, Italy during Roman times. In literacy, we will be writing soliloquies, historical narratives, letters and instructions all based on Roman life. In maths, we will be learning about Roman numerals, place value, addition and subtraction. In our history lessons, we will be learning about Boudicca, gladiators and the Roman lifestyle and in art, we will be making Roman clay pots.
Our science topic is ‘What’s that sound?’ so we will be investigating how sounds are made and how to change pitch and volume. Linked to our science work, in computing, we will be using Garageband to compose our own soundtracks. Throughout this term in RE, we will be studying Buddhism. Also, we will be starting our swimming lessons and considering our rights, rules and responsibilities in PSHE.
Year 4 are going to have a busy start to the new year!!
