Wednesday’s learning (20th January 2021)

Wednesday's learning | Year 2

It’s a Maths/Spelling/English/Science kind of day, today.

Maths

Following on from our superb work with money so far, we are moving on to just look at pounds. Pounds can be in coins OR notes, depending how much money there is. We’d like you to use you coin AND note recognition knowledge to help with counting and adding pounds to give totals.

Spelling

You’ve done this type of activity before. It is another ‘Look, say, cover, write, check’ activity using some more High Frequency Words.

English

In English today, we are looking at coordinating conjunctions. What are they? I hear you ask. Have no fear, there is information below to help you before you tackle this task (and myself and Miss Fretton will explain in more details on Zoom tomorrow).

We would like you to use a coordinating conjunction (‘and’, ‘but’ and ‘or’) to join 2 clauses together. The worksheets offer different levels of challenge. Choose your challenge and then read each ‘clause’ and join them together using a coordinating conjunction to make them a complete, compound sentence.

Science

It’s all about food chains today. But what is a food chain? We need to know this before we can complete our task today.

Watch this clip to help you find out about a food chain is. There is also a quiz to complete after watching the video to test what you have learnt from it. Once you’ve watched the video and completed the quiz, your task is to sort the animals (on the picture cards on the PDF file) into the correct boxes to complete the food chains. Again, the activity allows you to choose your challenge. The 1st challenge asks you to sort one food chain. The other challenges have more animals and more than one food chain to sort out.

Sorry parents – it’s quite information heavy today. Hopefully we can help in the zoom to explain things more clearly. Thanks for all you are doing and for the support you are providing the children as well as the school. It’s lovely receiving positive comments from you all. It means a lot.
