Wednesday’s Seesaw.

Phew what a hot day!

loop sweating GIF by joonasjoonas

You guys are absolutely amazing for keeping going in this hot weather well done, we are so impressed!

Jenson, that looked like hard work in the park this morning! You were so quick! I definetly think all that mischief in your story is very tiring no wonder you were all hungry! I wonder what crumbs you found and if the Jefferson’s knew what you were all up to while they were out? Those word problems didn’t fool you today either, superb maths work!

Thank You Alice for doing you maths work today. I can see you worked very hard and you were able to apply your fraction knowledge to help you solve some problems. Great aspirations.

Lots of maths work completed today Jerusha, well done, there were lots of tricky word problems to solve. I love that you solved how long the truck was. I wonder what operation you used to help you. What happened for the pool to turn into a sink? Was it a magic spell? Luckily you could still splash around! Your seaside in a bottle makes me think of a lovely Caribbean island!

More fabulous maths there Aarav! Lots of problem solving today and well done for finding the difference, that can be tricky but I can see you knew to use subtraction to help you.

Hi Molly, Loving all your times table practise today, it’s always great to know them as we use them so much in our maths work. Lovely to see you working on more maths on the computer, its looks like you are enjoying your maths!

I love reading a Saskia story! It sounds like your little people had a great birthday party in the Jefferson’s sink but what a mess they left behind! I can’t believe they got away with swimming in the sink for 2 weeks before they got caught. Luckily it sounds like Kitty was a friendly girl and I am sure they will have a great time together now they are best friends. Loving the amended version!

Those naughty little people Henry! I can’t believe they have a party everyday, I wonder what would happen if the Jefferson’s came home early one day? Great work in maths today, I can see you have worked hard to solve all those word problems and used the correct operations to help you, well done!

Riley A, it looks like you found a nice cool spot to work today. Thank goodness your little people in your story made friends with the Jefferson’s cat while escaping from the evil Venom! I’m glad he and this friends were able to scare him and his many men away with their pointy teeth and sharp claws! I wonder if the Jefferson’s ever found out about who was living in their home for a while? Great use of different operations to solve those word problems in maths, well done! Your seaside in a bottle looks like a nice tropical place I would love to visit.

Well done Dryden for all your work this week, we are also very proud of you. I can see not only have you used different operations to solve the maths problems today but also your 10 times table and fraction facts, great work. Those little people sound like they live everywhere in the Jefferson’s house. Jeff, Dave and Steve sure have fun while they are out. I wonder if they remember to tidy up after themselves? I hope so or they my get caught.

What a busy day you have had Logan! I like the look of your new book, I wonder what interesting facts you have found out? Fabulous maths work, I can see you have used different operations to help you solve those tricky word problems. Great resilience with your writing today. Pesky cats, they always get in the way of fun. I love the sound of your trap and it certainly made me think of a long loud bleeeeeeeping sound by the way you wrote the word! Not all seasides can be as clear as a Caribbean island, I don’t know about you but I love a visit to Southend!

Superb maths Lois, I can see not only did you use different operations but also applied your number and fraction knowledge to help you solve all those word problems. Your little people sound very resourceful by using the sink to cool themselves down. It sounds like they have lots of fun when the Jefferson’s are out, thank goodness they tidy up so no one knows their secret. I wonder what the Jefferson’s would say if they found out? Love your seaside in a bottle it reminds me of a good old British seaside!

Not sure who is in the swimming pool, but it looks like the perfect place to be today!

Wednesday’s learning (24th June)

Maths, English and DT today.

Maths

English

All of your paddling pool pictures have inspired me for this English lesson today. Although this is a swimming pool with a…twist?

Story starter!

When the Jefferson family were out, their house came alive with activity.

Every morning, when Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson headed off to work, and their two children ran along to the bus stop to catch their ride to school, the signal for ‘all clear’ would sound, and out of the woodwork the little people came…

Continue the story. Who are the characters? Why are they there? What do they do when The Jeffersons are home?

DT

I am aware that some of these resources will not necessarily be easy to source straight away, so consider this a task to complete as and when you can get the resources. We’d love to see your finished ‘seaside in a bottle’. You could improvise some of the resources. Instead of shells, you could use just pebbles. You don’t need to put a tag on the bottle straight away, so ribbon and tags aren’t really important straight away. Food colouring looks cool, but again, not necessary for this to work.

As of Monday 29th June, Miss Fretton will be in school until 4pm. Because of this, we will be commenting on the work submitted on Seesaw BEFORE 3:30pm. Anything that is posted after this will still be looked at and commented on; however, it will be the following day. I hope this makes sense.

We hope you had a great day in the sunshine today. Well done to all who have submitted their work on seesaw.

Hi Aarav. Another awesome day for you today. Thank you for sharing all of your brilliant work. Your 3 pieces of advice for sun safety are very useful. Especially in the hot weather we have at the moment. I hope you have had time to enjoy the sun as well as all the great work!

What a great day you’ve had, Logan. Did you grow the raspberries or were they just a refreshing treat? Some great Maths in your video comparing the plants. Do you think your plant will ever be as tall or taller than Dad’s?

Another busy day for your today, Henry. Some great Maths and English work shared. Thanks so much. I hope you have been going out in this amazing weather and enjoying a bike ride?

The lilo in that pool looks like the perfect place to relax and refresh during this amazingly hot weather, Jenson. Although jumping around in the pool looks fun too. Thank you sharing all of your brilliant work with us today. It looks like you’ve got a great balance of work and play!

It’s so good to see lots of you together again, Lois! Was this a planned get together or did you all bump into each other? I hope you had a lovely time with friends! Thank you for sharing your brilliant work with us today too.

Now I see the benefit of rattan furniture, Riley (easily cleaned and dried!) A water fight is a perfect way to cool down…and mess about in this weather. I hope you enjoyed your long walk and thank you for sharing your excellent work with us today.

Hi Saskia (and Lily). I hope you enjoyed your walk. How long did you walk? Is your cat…standing…on 2 feet? A long walk, some cat watching AND lots of brilliant work. You have worked really hard today. Well done!

Wow, Riley. You’ve been really busy today. It’s great to see you working so hard on your phonics and Maths at home. It’s also great to see how happy you are when working! Well done for another brilliant day.

Hi Jerusha. Wow. Another busy day for you today. Thank you for sharing all of your brilliant work. Remember to write in full sentences as much as possible. Where we are not doing as much writing at the moment, it’s good practise to write in full sentences where we can.

Hi Rebecca. That looks like a fun game. What is it called? Do you have to play with someone else or can you play by yourself? It looks like a good way to practise your spellings.

Hi Jonathan. I hope you’re okay and enjoying this great weather. Well done for completing your Maths and reading today. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Hi Dryden. A brilliantly busy day for you today. Lots of great Maths work, followed by a sun safety reading comprehension and then a good walk to show what you have learnt. Water and a hat to protect you from the sun…not sure about the Pompey shirt though.

I hope you enjoyed your walk today and meet up with friends, Molly. Thank you for sharing all of your brilliant work today as well. The perfect balance of work and play during home learning. Well done!

Some Awesome work from you today, Alice (and yesterday). Well done for showing resilience and passion in your learning to complete SO MUCH! I hope you enjoyed meeting up with friends today.

Tuesday’s learning (23rd June)

Tuesday GIFs | Tenor

Maths, English and PE today.

Joe Wicks did his workout yesterday. We can assume he is doing Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week. Now I know this, I will set PE on Monday and Friday as of next week.

PE

Complete Tuesday’s PE lessons activity. The weather is amazing this week so a great excuse to get outside as much as possible. A good chance to walk through woodlands, run around the block or cycle/scoot along the cycle paths through the parks. Enjoy the time outside and remember to take pictures!

Maths

English

There are three levels of reading comprehension all about sun, sea and beach safety, which is more important than ever right now with the weather getting hotter and more and more people going to the beach.

I love how lots of you are creating your own opportunities for learning by doing your own research on Victorian beaches. You’re creativity and imagination is inspiring and we are very proud of you all!

Logan, some awesome Maths work – using string is so helpful when measuring sometimes. I like your similarities and differences comparison of the beaches…but I also like the teacher’s comments when marking. It’s moments like that that make me really miss seeing everyone’s brilliant writing.

Lois, I love how you did your own research and were intrigued by a 10 year old’s diary giving you a recount of that time in history. Well done for completing Maths and English today as well!

Hi Riley. Where does Auntie Paula live? It looks familiar but I can’t figure it out…I’m so glad you got to visit family. Thank you for sharing your brilliant work from today. Mum and Dad don’t have bikes? Do they run behind? They could borrow your scooter…

Hi Jenson. It looks like you had a great time in the woods. It’s strange that I couldn’t see you but could hear you in the picture/voice over. I’m glad you still had time to do some Maths, English and History whilst in your hiding places! Thank you for sharing your brilliant work!

Some awesome handwriting today, Riley B. We are really impressed with the amount of super work you are doing, especially your phonics and Maths work.

The level of dedication your home school teachers show with writing out all of your questions, Henry, is amazing and I thank them for trying their hardest for you! Thank you to you as well for your brilliant work shared today! Well done!

Hi Dryden. I’m so pleased you got your internet back up and running. I’ve heard of lots of people having internet problems recently…I wonder if there’s a HUGE surge in home school internet usage and the internet just cannot cope! Some awesome work shared with us today, well done!

Hey Jonathan. Thank you for sharing your brilliant Maths work. We are so proud of the hard work you are showing, especially with your times tables and spellings!

Hi Aarav. Some great work shared with us today. How strange is it that people were fully clothed when in the sea? A good observation made for your history work! Amazing how our beaches have changed!

Wow Bea, I hope the carrots and peas were tasty? The carrots look like they would be very sweet and delicious. Me and Mrs P had home grown carrots and pak choi for dinner tonight. Well done for showing resilience – the results at the end are very satisfying and you should be very proud!

Hi Molly. Thanks for sharing all your very careful observations when comparing the two different time periods. I find it odd that people used to go in the sea with their clothes on. Why do you think this was?

Wow, Joshua. That strawberry looks tasty. As we near to what would have been the start of Wimbledon, strawberries are amazing in England this time of year! I hope you enjoyed it. Well done for perservering and growing them. It’s so rewarding to grow your own produce!

Hi Jerusha. Thank you for sharing all of your hard work with us today. What did you use to measure the objects in Maths? Some children used a piece of string to then use the ruler to measure the string. Others used a ruler against each object. Which way do you think is most accurate?

Happy Monday Animated Gif GIFs | Tenor

It was announced that Joe Wicks will be moved to 3 days a week. If we set PE with Joe on a day that he is not doing it, then we will direct you to the most recent video to complete.

Today is Maths, English and History.

Maths

This week is all about measuring. You will need a ruler for some of this week (and other measuring tools).

English

Level 1
Level 2
Level 3

History

Comparing seaside towns then and now. Have a look at these pictures. What differences can you see? What would you expect to see when you visit a seaside town? Focus on what people are wearing and how the human and physical features may have changed. Why might human features change? Why or how might physical features change?

Thanks for sharing even more brilliant work today, Aarav. I hope you enjoy a well earned rest this weekend and we look forward to seeing more excellent work next week!

Some superb work from you today, Henry. Well done! I love your language choice in your writing, especially the word ‘gather’. I wonder if anyone can comment on this blog explaining what the word ‘gather’ means?

More superb work from you today, Riley. I really like the sentence openers you’ve used in your writing, especially ‘just then’. It really helps add suspense and drama to your writing. Well done for completing your Maths and reading today as well.

Hi Logan. Thanks for sharing your Maths and reading work with us today. Well done for showing resilience and independence this week. That HoS award is well deserved! Have a brilliant weekend.

Well done for showing resilience and getting on with your work independently, Lois. It’s tricky adapting AGAIN (there seems to be so many changes right now for everyone) to more change…but this change seems like 1 step closer to getting back to normal! Keep it up.

Friday’s learning (19th June)

Friday Feeling GIFs - Get the best GIF on GIPHY
I am running out of animations – we have 4 weeks left – you may see some repeated animations soon.

It’s Maths, English and PE today (3 PE LESSONS IN A WEEK!! IT MUST BE MR P’s TURN ON THE BLOG!)

Maths

We are eagerly awaiting the Maths challenge this week. They have been slow to upload it – instructions will be on the website (hopefully by the time you need to click on the link today). Remember, there are certain numbers of questions that are suitable for Year 2, but give as many as you can a go! You could do it as a family to see who has the biggest Maths brain!

English

Stranded

It’s Friday, so that means creative writing!

You are stranded on this island. What 3 things do you have with you? How will these things help you to survive? You might want to have a knife or a sword to help cut fruit from trees or to help find food deep in the forest. You may want a bucket (or a bowl). List the 3 things you would have with you and explain why they would help you when stranded.

Once you have got your three things, I would like you write a story about your journey to survival. What did you see? What could you hear? How did you feel? Here’s part of my example to get you started:

I woke feeling dazed and confused. Where was I? I stumbled to my feet and rubbed my eyes. I peered through my glazed, blurry eyes at what looked like water. Then it became clearer. I was surrounded by beautiful azure sea. Everywhere I turned – sea. There was no escape. Or so I thought…

PE

It’s Joe Wicks dress up Friday. We want to see everyone who does Joe Wicks dressing up in their silliest costumes. We want Wonder Woman, Batman, Willy Wonka and minibeasts completing their workouts today. The best costume will be chosen by me and Miss Fretton and they will get 10 dojos!
