Good Luck Y6!

Y6 SATs began this morning and nearly everyone turned up early for the special Y6 Breakfast Club put on by Miss Giles and Miss Jennings.  We are very proud of Y6 already as they have been working so hard, but we are all sending them our best wishes this week.  For reflection time in last Friday’s assembly, Mrs Archer read out this letter…

To all of Year 6 (and Year 2!),

We are proud of each and every one of you.

Your SATS are almost here, so much time, energy and work have gone into reaching this point.  However, your time at Lawford Mead has been more than that.  Whilst your SATS are very important and we know you will all make us all PROUD, showing all our school values throughout the tests, always remember we are PROUD of all of your achievements including those that cannot be measured by tests and exams.

Over the last few years we have seen you grow as individuals.  Some of you may love sports, some music, some dance, some acting, some computing, some are budding chefs, some are animal lovers.  But you are all wonderful, compassionate people and fantastic, supportive friends.  You are always willing to help others out and you can make us all smile just by entering the room.

From Mrs Archer and all of the LMPS staff.

Have YOU got a message for Year 6 (and Year 2, who begin their SATs soon too)? Leave a comment below.

Gingerbread Maaaaaan!

Wow.  We were already very proud of our Year 1 pupils but they still managed to blow us away with their amazing Gingerbread Man assembly today!  Thanks to all the families who came.

The children showed off so much of the learning they have been doing this year as well as modelling our school values of passion and aspiration beautifully.

A real highlight was the Gingerbread Maaaaan rap!  We have such confident hip hop stars at Lawford Mead!  One remarkable rapper had to step in at the last minute and perform with very little practice!

Well done Year 1.  You made everyone very PROUD today, so you should be very proud of YOURSELVES!

Hoop Heroes!

The best bit of Basketball Club each Wednesday afternoon is at 4.10pm when we invite brave mums, dads, grandparents and big brothers and sisters to come and join us!

What club are you enjoying this term?

A time to reflect…

Thank you so much to the Year 6 role model who wrote and read out today’s beautiful reflection poem.  Friday celebration assemblies are exciting (and they can get loud!) but it’s important to end our time together with a quiet moment to  reflect on our values, hopes and dreams.  Here’s today’s poem.  It was written with Y6 SATs in mind but I think it applies to us all.

Let us be confident, positive and willing to face challenges that come towards us.

Let us be resilient and to be an inspiration towards others.

Let us be a group that works in harmony and to cast away anger and frustration.

Let us aspire and be optimistic as unwanted feelings can sink into our bodies.

Which words, phrases or lines here are special to you?  I’ll be blogging these poems every Friday from now on…see you next week.

Role Models

Well done to our Y3/4 pupils (and all the other schools) who were involved in the  dodgeball tournament this week!  It’s not just effort and success in competition that make us proud at LMPS though…

Our Year 6 SPORTS ROLE MODELS give up their time to assist at sports clubs and events every week.  They even help run the activities!  These pupils show the school value of PASSION and a whole lot of  pride in their school.  And they have a t-shirt to prove it!  Not only that, the great work of these Y6 role models is also helping Lawford Mead achieve the Sainsburys’ Silver Games Mark!

What have you done lately to be a role model to your friends and classmates?

Because we’re worth it…

The first week back after the Easter break has been a good one.  We are aspiring to achieve great things this Summer term!

One area of the school where children have been showing a great deal of pride and ambition, is in Reception.  Pupils have been working very hard on their cursive handwriting, their punctuation and, most impressively of all, their use of the word ‘because’ in their sentences! Well done Laurel and Larch!

What are YOU aspiring to achieve this term?

Mr P

Fantastic Foxes!

Well done Foxes for being at the top of the leader board to end the term.  But you have ALL shown the school values an incredible number of times since September.  You can all be very proud.

Visit to see more pictures of the Foxes’ treat!  I’m sure you all enjoyed your class treats too (if you met your class dojo point target)! How did you celebrate the great learning you’ve been doing this term?

Science Week!

What an exciting week.  Schools all around the country are celebrating British Science Week. And it’s not just about science.  There are special technology, maths and engineering activities going on too.  Keep an eye on the year group blogs to find out more about the forensic science workshops and food technology activities going on around our school as well as the special science investigations.  Children will be visiting other classes and working with other year groups too.

Leave a comment below telling everyone what you are learning and enjoying this week!

This fantastic video below, released by Google yesterday to celebrate International Women’s Day, is making us think about our value of ASPIRATION here at Lawford Mead.  In the video, girls and women from around the world share their dreams for the future.

Can you (boys too!) leave a comment below sharing YOUR dream for the future?  Start with One day I will…
