Thursday’s Learning (4th March)

How you can celebrate a very 2021 World Book Day on Thursday 4 March! | National Literacy Trust
Currently Reading Back To School GIF by INTO ACTION

Before we share with you your fun activities for World Book Day We would just like to say we are so very proud of you are for you continued commitment and resilience throughout your time at home. Each and everyone of you are a super star. We would also like to give a massive thank you to your families for their continued support they have given you, We certainly could not have done our remote learning without you! We completely understand how difficult and it has been to stay motivated for so many weeks so well done everyone. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you all back on Monday and I am sure we will all settle in fairly quickly as we get back to our daily school routine.

For Zoom today we would love to see you come dressed as your favourite book character and also you might want to bring your favourite book to share with use too.

Today (World Book Day) and tomorrow (digital Detox Day) is about enjoying your last few days at home with your family. As part of our World book day we would like you to take your favourite book and find an unusual place to read it. It might be somewhere in your house or it might be in your garden. It could even be somewhere in the park on where you go for a walk. Where ever you find, share your book with your family and take a picture for us to see on seesaw.

Scavenger hunt: Can you go on a scavenger hunt around your house? See if you can find all the items on the list. Everything on the list is linked to a well know story book. Once you have found all the items can you match them to the correct story? If you can not find all the items maybe you could draw them with the matching book title. We have given you all the book titles that match and included are the answers but to peeping first! Happy hunting.

Last week we were looking at the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar written by Eric Carle. Eric Carle has written many other stories including quite a few about different mini-beast. You can enjoy some of these stories by clicking on the links on the sheet below and reading along with them. You may want to listen to just one or to all of them it is up to you. Once you have listened to them we would like you to choose your favourite mini-beast character from one of the stories and write a character description about them. You will need to think about how you would describe what he/she looks like, and how he/she moves (adjectives and verbs). You might also think about what his/her character is like. Is he/she happy, cross, tried etc. Once you have thought of your ideas write a short description and see if your family members can work out who you are describing. If you do not fancy writing your ideas down, maybe you could verbally describe the character for you family to guess. Once you have finished you may want to draw a lovely picture of your chosen minibeast character.

Wednesday’s learning (3rd March)

Design Portfolio | Jess Mone

Today we have spelling, Maths, English and Science.

Spelling

For today, we are looking at the ‘wr’ spelling pattern. Sometimes there are some words that have silent letters. When using the ‘wr’ spelling pattern for the /r/ sound, the ‘w’ is silent. It’s one of those spelling patterns that we just need to know when reading. There is a poster to help with the spelling pattern before having a go at the look, cover, write, check activity.

Maths

Yesterday, you had a recap on using grouping to divide. Today we are going to continue and extend our learning a little further to do some more problem solving. Watch the video and have a go at the worksheet. Remember, we will be going through this a little on Zoom and we can answer questions on Seesaw throughout the day.

English

We were really impressed with your alliteration sentences about minibeasts yesterday. Today we’d like you to continue using alliteration to write a poem. There’s a template for you to use but we will model this more on Zoom.

Miss Fretton has explained more here –>

Imagine you are in a micro habitat. Think about all the different mini-beasts that can see each other. Your poem is going to describe who they can see. I have decided to ask the Ladybird who she can see first. She could see a caterpillar so now I am going to ask the caterpillar who he can see. Then you can repeat with the next mini-beast. Use the template to help you write your poem.

Ladybird, ladybird, what do you see?

I see a crazy, curly caterpillar crawling towards me.

Caterpillar, Caterpillar, what do you see?

I see a_________________________________ towards me.

Science

For your Science today, we’d like you spend some time outside. We need you to find 2 habitats (you might have already done this for previous activities). Your habitat might be under a big rock or a big log. It could be in a hole in a tree. Look in these habitats and tally how many of each minibeast you can see (see the survey sheet below). Once you have looked in both habitats, we’d like you to draw a pictogram to represent your data (remember tallies and pictograms in Maths before half term?).

Tuesday’s learning (2nd March)

Have a toadally terrific tuesday | Tuesday quotes funny, Good morning inspirational quotes, Happy tuesday

Today is Phonics, English, Maths and Computing. A busy day! Let’s get to it…

Phonics

We are continuing to look at the alternative ‘or’ graphemes. Read through the text and find all of the graphemes. You can also think of your own words too.

Maths

You are making equal groups today. This is a recap lesson but it may be something you missed in Year 1 as well. Watch the video and then have a go at the task. Remember you can ask us questions on Zoom and Seesaw if you need any help with anything.

English

Today, we are looking at alliteration. What is alliteration I heard you ask?

Mrs Saveall has planned a game to play tomorrow on Zoom to give you some extra help with understanding alliteration.

Have a look at the worksheet for today and read some of the examples of sentences that use alliteration. Your challenge is to write sentences about minibeasts with alliteration. For example: Lazy ladybird lying on a leaf.

Computing

We are looking at algorithms again today. Last week you had a go at instructing someone to complete a task. Today, we’d like you to write an algorithm that instructs someone to make a jam sandwich. You might want to make the sandwich first and make quick notes on what you did. Use time adverbials (first, then, next, after that…) to help order your steps. I wonder if you can test a family member to see if your algorithms work?

Monday’s Learning (1st March)

We Got This Teamwork GIF by GIPHY Cares

Here we go Year 2! We are nearly there.

World Book Day (Thursday 4th March)

Just to let you know It is World Book Day On Thursday (4th March). As we are unable to be in school we would love for you to still have the same fun. Come dressed as your favourite book character for our zoom meeting so we can have a character parade and join in with our book quiz. Also take a look at our main page and take part in our Masked Reader competition. Watch the video and see if you can guess who is reading their book behind a mask. Make a list of who you think they all are and post it on seesaw. The person/people with the most correct guesses will win a prize! Remember to post your list by Wednesday this week though.

Todays learning

Phonics

Today we are going to be looking at all the different graphemes for the ‘or’ sound. There are many different ways to represent this grapheme but some are more common than others. If you want a reminder of how to pronounce this grapheme watch the video below.

Mathematics

We are continuing with division today. You will need to make equal groups by sharing (dividing). Remember this is just the opposite to the multiplication we have been doing. Instead of finding out how many you have altogether you already know how many you have altogether and how many groups you have. Your job is to find out how many are in each group instead by sharing equally. The video below can give you further support.

English

This week we are going to be looking at and writing our own minibeast poems. Today we would like you to read different minibeast poems. Once you have read them we would like you to become a bug poem detective! We would like you to find and list all the different minibeast in the poems. Once you have found all of these we would like you to detect as many adjectives (describing words), verbs (action words) and adverbs (describing action) as you can. I wonder how many you can find? Happy hunting everyone.

Science

Continuing with our topic of Wriggle and Crawl we are going to be looking at microhabitats today. We would like you to tell us what a microhabitat is and what type of living things use these as their homes. Once you have discovered this see if you can find two different microhabitats where you live. You might look in your garden, along the road you live in, in the park are maybe you could go for a walk with your family and find them along the way. Once you have found two different microhabitats use the enquiry sheet to draw and label them. Have fun hunting out those habitats!

Friday’s Learning (26th February).

Friday Minions GIF

Well we have made it to the end of another week for home learning. Well done Year 2 and thank you to your families for their continued support. One Week to go!

Spelling: We are continuing to look at the spelling pattern ‘c’ that makes the ‘s’ sound when it comes before ‘i, e and y’. Today we would like your help again. It seems I have got in a muddle and need help following this spelling pattern. Can you find the correct spelling for each word and then either write them on your own paper or colour the square that the correct spelling is in. Then we would like you to ask an adult to read out loud some sentences for you while you write them (no peeping). Remember you need to think about using this weeks spelling pattern correctly as well as including capital letters and full stops. You can then read the sentences yourself and correct any mistakes if need.

Mathematics: Today we are moving on to division. Division is the same as sharing into equal groups. There are lots of questions with pictures asking you to share them into equal groups. You might want to use your own counters such as pasta, toys, beads etc to help you work out each question and checked you have shared them equally. You can watch the video below for further support.

English: Today we would like you to finish re-writing the story of Th Very Hungry Caterpillar. Use the planning sheet to help you first. We are looking at using improved adjectives , verbs and adverbs again today. The video below shows you how to plan and share ideas for vocabulary choices, and then how to use the plan for your writing. Remember your planning sheet has each section you are improving included to also help.

Computing: We are looking at Algorithms today. An algorithm is just like giving instructions to make something work. You use algorithms all the time when you bake or follow instructions for games etc. In computing algorithms are used to make (give instructions) your games work and characters move around. We would like you to think of instructions (an algorithm) to direct someone in your family from one place in a room to another. EG from the fridge to the oven or from the backdoor to your shed. It is up to you where you direct your family member but remember they can only move when you tell them and they can only follow your direct instructions. A top tip- you might want to walk through your instructions first to check they work.

Thursday’s Learning (25th February)

Thursday GIF by Mypenleaks

Hello everyone. Fantastic work again yesterday, we really are so very proud of you all.

Here is Thursday’s Learning:

Spellings: Today we are looking at the spelling pattern ‘c’ that makes the ‘s’ sound when it comes before e, i, and y. We would like you to write these words out, match them to the pictures and then challenge yourselves to use as many as possible in sentences.

Mathematics: Today you are going to apply your 10 times table knowledge to help you answer questions. The questions are very similar to Tuesday and Wednesday’s work. You have some pictures to help your represent your multiplication equations including a bar model. The part with the 10’s in are the groups and the long bar at the top shows how much altogether. You also have some word problems to solve so remember work out what it is asking you to do from the information given to you ( it will be linked to the 10 times tables). You can watch the video below to support you further.

English: We are going to carry on re-writing the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar. Plan your ideas first and then follow the story format to help you write your sentences. So today you will be using the days of the week from the story to start each sentences. Choose which fruit and food you would like the Very Hungry Caterpillar to munch on and then add them into your sentences. If you need support with this watch the video below to help with your planning and writing.

PSHE: Today we are looking at how we can stay healthy. We have already looked at what we can do to keep healthy but Jigsaw Joe our PSHE friend is have trouble keeping healthy. You task today is to see if you can help Jigsaw Joe be motivated to keep healthy!

Wednesday’s Learning (25th February).

a bugs life eating GIF

Happy Wednesday everyone! Keep strong you are all amazing!

Here is todays learning:

Spelling: Today you are going to be looking at some more common exception words (word that do not always following our spelling rules). We would like you to read them, cover them up and write them (no peeping!) Once you have completed this see if you can use them correctly in each sentence. Then have some fun by writing them in bubble writing and colouring them in.

Mathematics: Today you are going to be applying your 5 times tables to help you answer questions. Instead at looking at lots of (X) 2 you will be looking at lots of(X) five instead and counting in fives not 2 today. Look at the 5 times table below to help as well.

5 Times Table | Five Times Table | DK Find Out

Use the White rose Hub video to support your learning and we will go through the question tomorrow on zoom for further support.

English: Today we are going to start re-writing the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. There are two parts to your English. Firstly we would like you to plan your writing. You can follow the first learning video below to help with this. We are asking you to think of adjectives, verbs and adverbs that you could add to the story and improve the sentences.

Once you have completed your planning you can use your fabulous new vocabulary to write the first part of the story. There are examples under your planning template and below is a video to help you and show you how to use your planning to write you sentences.

Design and Technology: Lets have some fun today! We would like you to create a lever that pulls The Very Hungry Caterpillar through different types of fruit so it looks like he is munching his way through them. We have included the few resources you will need and step by step instructions on how to make it. You may need some adult support with some parts.

Tuesday’s Learning (23rd February).

Work Week GIF by Denyse®

Happy Tuesday everyone! Well done for your first day back yesterday.

Today’s learning.

Phonics: We are continuing to look at the two different ways we say and spell the ‘oi’ grapheme. Today we would like you to read the phoneme spotter and then underline or write all words that include either the ‘oi’ or ‘oy’ grapheme. Remember you can check your answer by clicking on the link below on the Phonics Play website. As an extra challenge we would love to see some silly sentences being written using as many of the words you have found today.

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/5

Mathematics:

Today we are looking at applying the 2 times tables.

2 times table with games at Timestables.co.uk

You may be able to use your doubling knowledge from yesterday to help. Before you look at the worksheet you can watch the white Rose Hub learning video to support your understanding. Also you can use my maths video to help you answers each question on your sheet.

English: We are looking at adverbs today. Adverbs describe a verb (action word). The video below explains this further. For your task we would like you to firstly find some adverbs in sentences. You can either underline them or write them on your own paper. Then we would like to use the list of ‘how’ adverbs we have given you to complete the sentences linked to The Very Hungry Caterpillar story. Try to challenge yourself to use some adverbs you have not heard of or used before. Also remember your sentences will need to make sense. Finally we would like you to make a list of adverbs you think would be useful for your writing later in the week linked to our story.

Finally we are looking at Science today. Over the next few weeks we are going to be looking at habitats. Habitat means where animals including humans live and how it helps them to survive. Today we would like you to think about local habitats. These are the type of places we live in or live near. Read the information about the four different habitats and then sort the animals into there matching habitat. You do not need to print and cut out just list or draw each animal under each habitat heading. As an extra challenge you may want to go for a walk with your family and then draw a map of your local habitat. You may even see some animals you can include on your map.

Welcome Back GIF by memecandy

Welcome back everyone. Hope you all had a lovely rest last week, you certainly deserved it!

So here we go! Your were all just so amazing last half term and we were so very proud of your continued aspirations and resilience. I know we can all carry on!

Our new topic for this half term is Wriggle and Crawl!

Image result for wriggle and crawl
Can you guess what this topic is all about?

Phonics: Today were are going to be looking at the 2 different graphemes that represent the ‘oi’ phoneme. To remind you of how to pronounce this phoneme you can watch the short video below before you start your task.

We would then like you to read aloud all the words with either the ‘oi’ or ‘oy’ grapheme in (use your robot arms to help you) and then sort them under the matching heading.

Mathematics: In maths today we are going to have a recap on making doubles. Doubles means when you add the same number together, EG 2 add another 2 or 3 add another 3. Below is a little song to help the remember your doubles.

You can also watch the white Rose Hub teaching video before you start your task for further support. We will go through your task during zoom today as well.

English: To start our wriggle and crawl topic off we are going to be looking at the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar this week.

Image result for the very hungry caterpillar

We would like you to read along with the story either independently or with an adult and then answer the questions on your worksheet. You may want to read through the story a few times to help you find the answers. Where possible see if you can answer in full sentences using your very neat handwriting.

RE: Last half term we learnt about who Guru Nanak was and what religion he is linked to. Today we are going to look at why he is special to Sikh people. Use the information on the sheet to help or watch the video ( link found on worksheet). Guru Nanak often thanked God for many things and people. We would also like you to think about who you would like to thank and why too.

Thursday’s Learning (11th February)

tom and jerry animation GIF by Boomerang Official

Hello everyone. Well we have nearly made it! Before We let you know about your learning for today we would just like to say we are so very proud of each and everyone of you. We have been so impressed with your aspirations and resilience you have shown over the last half term. You are all superstars! We would also like to send a massive thank you to your families for printing or writing out your work, supporting you with your learning, helping you come and join us on zoom and just for being there amazing selves. We really could not do this without you.

Digital Detox Day

Don’t forget tomorrow is digital detox day. We have uploaded some suggestions for you to follow if you choose on this blog so you do not have to go onto the blog at all tomorrow.

Phonics

In phonics today we would like to become word detectives. Your mission is to find lots of phase 5 tricky words! First of all you have a picture and within this picture are lots of tricky words for you to find. Make sure you look carefully they are hidden very well! I think I have found 9. Next if possible we would love some help from your families. First of all we would like you to write out (spelt correctly) all the tricky words on the scavenger check list, on to bits of spare or scrap paper. Then ask a family member to hide them around the house. Your job is to find them, read them and then tick them off on your sheet or list them on paper as you find them. I wonder if you can find all of them?

Maths

In maths we are continuing with multiplication. Last week we briefly looked at arrays and we will be using them to day to help use represent multiplication. Remember array is just another way to show multiplication.

Image result for array

You can watch the white Rose Hub video to help support the start of your learning and then use my video to support you with the worksheet we are asking you to complete today. I wonder if you can spot who is lurking about in the background today!

English

For English today we would like you to bring together this weeks learning and write your own version of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We would like you to use your adjectives and keep the same structure as the story so you can split your writing up into smaller parts if this is easier. (goats arriving at the bridge, Goat taking it in turns to go across the bridge, the troll ends up in the water and the goats carry on to the nice green grass).

D&T

This week we have looked at different bridges around Great Britain. Today we would like you to design and if possible make your own bridge for a toy vehicle to travel over. When you design your bridge you will need to think about what materials you will use and how you will make it strong. If you look back at the pictures from yesterday, notice what shapes have been used in each design to help make it strong. Once you have thought about this draw your design. Finally make your bridge if you are able to and test it for strength using you chosen toy vehicle.
